On the eve of the UN Climate Summit in New York, Alain Flausch, UITP Secretary General and Gunnar Heipp, Chair of the UITP Sustainable Development Commission will gather with other high-level stakeholders to discuss the role of sustainable transport as a solution to climate change.
‘On track for green & clean transport’ is a joint event supported by UITP and is set to take place in New York on September 22, one day before the Climate Summit itself.
The morning’s proceedings will be dedicated to the role that railways can play as the backbone of sustainable transport systems, whilst in the afternoon the attendees will examine the climate change mitigation potential of the transport sector in the context of the commitments to be presented at the Climate Summit.
Co-organising this side event are the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), International Union of Railways (UIC - the worldwide railway association with 240 members), Amtrak (US passenger railway company), and the Partnership for Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT).
More than 100 other events about climate change (including other transport-related events) will take place during the Climate Week NYC (22-28 September), which gathers all events related to the UN Climate Summit. Climate Change NYC’s events will bring together heads of state, business leaders and civil society representatives to encourage climate action and discuss low carbon solutions.
