UITP is the international network for public transport authorities and operators, policy decision-makers, scientific institutes and the public transport supply and service industry. It is a platform for worldwide cooperation, business development and the sharing of know-how between its 3,400 members from 92 countries. Every year,
the International Transport Forum Awards honour outstanding achievements in transport, which count among the most distinguished prizes in the transport sector. On the occasion of The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) wishes to emphasize that strong and sustainable economic growth is impossible without investing in transport infrastructure. Cities generate the majority of economic activity. This is where investments should be made. Public transport as a sector is also a major driver of the economy.

The 60th World Congress and Mobility & City Transport Exhibition of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) will be held from 26 to 30 May 2013 in Geneva. It will be hosted by transports publics genevois (tpg). As expressed in the slogan ‘i-MOVE 2.0, THE business model for tomorrow?’, the event will constitute a major step forward in efforts to bring about the radical overhaul of the sector that is necessary in order to double the public transport market share worldwide by 2025.

The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) and International Association of Public Transport (UITP) inked a Memorandum of Understanding today to establish and develop in Singapore the UITP Centre for Transport Excellence for the Asia Pacific region.

UITP took part in the UN climate change conference (COP17) in Durban, South Africa (28 November – 9 December 2011). Although the science of global warming is clear and the role that sustainable low-carbon transport can play in addressing climate change is well known, little progress appears to have been made in terms of achieving a binding agreement in the UN climate talks.

In June 2009 UITP set out an ambitious aim for the sector, namely to double the market share of public transport worldwide by 2025. This ambition goes by the name of 'PTx2'. Whilst this aim is undoubtedly bold, it is not unrealistic: many cities have already taken up the challenge and are working towards this goal, in line with their specific political, geographical and historical contexts.
