    Marketing Summer Course

UITP's 5th Marketing Summer Course attracted 30 participants in Bilbao, Spain.

THE FIFTH edition of the Marketing Summer Course took place in Bilbao, Spain, at the end of June. The event, hosted by Metro Bilbao, gathered 30 participants from 15 countries, mainly from Europe but also from Australia and Ivory Coast.

The four-day course was a unique occasion to improve the practical knowledge of the participants on marketing in public transport, and also to address marketing issues from an international perspective, enriched by different cultural approaches and points of view. The team of trainers again did a wonderful job: thanks to their excellent preparation and commitment, participants learnt about marketing strategies, communication and promotion, branding, megatrends and marketing management.

The best of innovation in marketing

From left to right: Enrique Urkijo Goitia, Malaga Metro Project Director, Ferrocarriles de la Junta de Andalucia, Sevilla, Spain; Susana Palomino, Chair of the Marketing and Product Development Commission; Teófilo Serrano Beltrán, Managing Director, Ferrocarriles de la Junta de Andalucia, Sevilla, Spain; Concepción Gutierrez del Castillo, Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Sevilla, Spain; Hans Rat, UITP General Secretary and Carlos Hernández Pezzi, President of the Council of Spain’s architects, Madrid, Spain.

UITP held is 4th International Marketing Conference on 14-16 November in Malaga, Spain, with the support of Ferrocarriles de la Junta de Andalucia, and the outstanding commitment of its Managing Director, Teófilo Serrano Beltrán, and Enrique Urkijo Goitia, Malaga Metro Project Director.

The insightful programme elaborated by the Marketing and Product Development Commission on ‘The best of innovation in marketing’, achieved a truly international success with 250 participants coming from 32 countries from the five continents.

Marketing must be innovative and create new services and products to anticipate and respond to the evolving needs and new lifestyles of consumers. Most of the projects presented at the event highlighted the latest developments in creating value for public transport customers and therefore for public transport companies.

The big challenge of our time is to provide a public transport offer that fits citizens’ lifestyles, ie a frequent, modern and easy-to-use service adapted to our increasingly complex travel behaviour. But it is not only about the service itself but also the image.

The stakeholders present in Malaga agreed that they need to broaden their attitude in relation to the services provided, in order to match the new patterns of life and mobility.

One of the highlights of the conference was the awards ceremony for the best public transport marketing campaigns.
