The Hagerbach Test Gallery in Sargans, Switzerland, hosted the meeting of the Security Commission.

AT THE BEGINNING of April, the Security Commission met for the first time in a tunnel! The meeting was hosted by the Hagerbach Test Gallery in Sargans, Switzerland, a worldwide unique centre for research and development of underground tunnel infrastructure.

Members enjoyed very interesting visits and demonstrations, including scanning of metro systems, evacuation from deep metro tunnels, fire detection and training of security personnel.

Highlights of the meeting were the final approval of the Terms of Reference and an update on the working programme, including the CCTV working group (read more below) and COUNTERACT. A brainstorming on the security session at the Vienna Congress was held and a working group established to lead its preparations.  In the spirit of the new agreement between UITP and Alamys, the latter gave feedback from the activities of their Security Group.

Working Group on Closed Circuit Television

THE FIRST meeting of the Security Commission Working Group on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) was hosted by HTM in The Hague, The Netherlands, on 26 March.

The Working Group includes a representative of the Information Technology and Service Industry Committee to have a better understanding of the technical side. The group will conduct a study on the use of technology as a security measure. This study will produce user-friendly guidelines on the whole process of installing CCTV into a system for security purposes, starting with making sure it is the right solution for your security needs, through to advice on procedures for an effective operation.

The group will also look at the ‘vision for the future' which aims at more clearly defining the public transport environment in terms of security to better tailor research and development.
