SOME 400 participants attended the IT-TRANS Conference and Exhibition in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 13-15 February to discover the latest trends in information technology for public transport.
This successful first edition, co-organised by UITP and the Karlsruhe congress centre (KMK), focused on five main pillars: testing, learning, networking, case studies and market updates. During three days, over 80 speakers gave state of the art presentations in five main sessions for learning, 11 workshops for case studies, three market updates and three technical visits. The themes included security and privacy, innovation and inspiration, intermodal transport control systems and interoperable fare management.
During the opening session two keynote speakers spoke on the hot topic of smartcard security. Experts gave remarkable conclusions about the emerging trends at the closing session which were complemented by the views of a group of teenagers.
Many visitors from all corners of the world came to the parallel exhibition, where 80 exhibitors from 19 countries showcased their innovations and technologies.
The introduction of the Test & Use concept was very much appreciated by delegates and visitors. This was also a fruitful and encouraging experience for exhibitors and a majority of them have already confirmed their presence at the next edition.
The involvement of UITP’s partners like ASSTRA, VDV, UTP, KMK and the Technology Region Karlsruhe as well as the input from UITP’s members contributed to make a true success of this first edition.
The next IT-TRANS entitled ‘Make IT work for public transport’ will take place on 24-26 February 2010 in Karlsruhe, Germany. Mark your agenda!
