    Project Director "European Bus System of the Future"

    Introduction:
    UITP – the International Association of Public Transport - has a vacancy for a Project Director. The European Bus System of the Future project (EBSF) is an applied technical research project that focuses on the bus system in urban and suburban areas. The project is conceived as a driver to increase the attractiveness of the bus systems in urban areas by means of new technologies on vehicles and on the infrastructure, in combination with operational best practices, in a system approach. The project objectives: to develop an innovative high quality bus system, a breakthrough design of vehicles, infrastructures and operations and to maintain or improve the competitive position of the European bus manufacturers and operators.

    About EBSF:

    • project size of around 30 million € and a duration of 4 years
    • 50 partners (bus industry, public transport operators, authorities, and academia/consultancy)
    • Co-financed under FP7
    • Start first trimester 2008

    In the framework of this project UITP has a vacancy from now for a Project Director. UITP is looking for a person who has a confirmed background in the European Bus sector and confirmed experience in project management and preferably in European research projects. An important part of the job will consist of the quality management of the project.

    Responsibilities:

    • Overall project coordination
    • Overall technical coordination
    • Overall quality management
    • Internal reporting at UITP and UITP working bodies
    • Representation of UITP’s interests as project coordinator

    Tasks:

    • Supervision of project administration (financial, administrative and contractual issues)
    • Management of consortium and keeping contact to all project partners
    • Overview of progress of project and sub-projects, coordinating them in terms of technical content and ensuring that results are achieved
    • Chairing the technical management committee
    • Running of the quality plan and controlling of deliverables
    • Close cooperation with the strategic advisor for the project (preparing strategic board meetings)
    • Interface to the European Commission

    Skills/capabilities

    • Good experience in project management
    • Experience in working in the urban bus transportation sector
    • Ability for liaising between different European countries and cultures
    • Good moderation and strong leadership
    • Teamwork and social abilities as well as capabilities to resolve potential conflicts
    • Language skills: Fluent verbal and written communication in English; good knowledge of another European language is an asset
