UITP and European Rail Legislation Impacting Local Rail Networks (Urban, Suburban And Regional)
Local rail public passenger transport is impacted by the European “rail specific” legislation initially developed so as to promote the development of the trans-European rail networks.

We are pleased to present in the brochure ‘UITP and European Rail Legislation Impacting Local Rail Networks’ the current state (March 2008) of this rail legislation in its relationship with local rail (suburban and regional conventional rail networks, and urban rail systems: metro, tramway and light rail), as well as the recommendations of UITP for the national application of this legislation by Member States and for future steps.

Among this European rail specific legislation only the texts impacting the local rail sector are mentioned.

The document also provides the legal references of other European legislation impacting the local rail sector (in Annex 2), and some information about the European bodies mentioned in the document (in Annex 1).
