    Introduction to UITP’s New Reporting
    Framework for Charter Signatories

    4-5 October 2009, Brussels, Belgium

    Context and Objectives

UITP launched its Sustainable Development Charter in 2003 and it requires all full signatories to monitor measure and report on their environmental, social and economic performance. The charter is a dynamic process and reporting is one of most common ways of monitoring and measuring performance. Within this context it is intended that FULL signatories of the UITP Sustainable Development Charter will be required to commit to report on their performance following a set of mandatory and voluntary indicators. It is intended that this will help give direction and focus to PLEDGE signatories and help align non confidential information from full signatories to gather solid information from the sector to show its good performance to those outside of the public transport sector.

The UITP Sustainable Development Commission has developed such a framework and set of indicators that was presented at the World Congress in Vienna. This process will be tested on a voluntary basis by UITP signatories. Feed back and modifications given to the Sustainable Development Commission over the period 2009-11 will be integrated and from 2011 all signatories of the UITP-Charter will be obliged to report with respect to this framework.

This interactive workshop will introduce the framework and how it should be applied by charter signatories. It will also bring cutting edge examples from signatories and from other sources to motivate and inspire you to better use reporting as a tool.
