Dear UITP members,

UITP is highly honoured to participate in Expo 2010 Shanghai China with a pavilion. This is a unique opportunity for UITP to take a more leading role to citizens of the world, advocating the benefits of using public transport! Thus the event is themed to fit our PTx2 strategy: double market share of public transport by 2025!

On 28 August 2010, UITP will celebrate the Expo Honor Day with an official ceremony, featuring a ceremony which the UITP Flag will be hoisted officially inside the Expo Park! During the event, we would be announcing the results of the Solutions-for-our-future Award which 10 very bright young talents around the world have contributed thoughts to help grow public transport usage!

To echo to the theme of Expo “Better City, Better Life”, UITP will announce to the world a presentation on “Public Transport and Urban Planning integration, the twins for modern city development”.

In fact in China, there are a lot of public transport achievements happening. To give members a firsthand in-depth exchange opportunity, a Study Tour with a rich one-week programme is organized. The tour allows us insights of the mega cities like Beijing and Shanghai, and to visit a developing city Zhengzhou, to envisage how the city is rebuilt aligning with development of public transport facilities. We shall take a very close look on how BRT system helps improve mobility of the citizens and how public transport contributes to the growing economic activities to the city!
