Issues of urban mobility of people and goods are becoming an increasing concern in Africa. The lack of adequate transport infrastructures, the lack of institutional and regulatory framework, infernal congestions, the overloaded buses and trucks with in corollary many traffic accidents, the road annoyances, the increased CO2 emission, the fares fluctuation, the multifaceted assaults, the proliferation of informal transport operators... are, among others, some key issues to be addressed for the sustainable development of public transport in Africa. We need together to seek sustainable solutions to these dysfunctions costly for the community. In this view, the African Association of Public Transport (UATP), in collaboration with the Executive Council of Dakar Urban Transport (CETUD) and SENBUS Industries, organizes with the support of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and the Ministry of Land Transport in Senegal, the 1st African public transport Congress and Exhibition at the Meridien President Hotel in Dakar, Senegal, from 3rd to 7th October 2010. This event will gather high-ranking African and international politicians, professionals and academics involved in mobility issues in Africa. It will constitute a unique platform of good practices, technologies and solutions for the future, adapted to the African realities and as such an opportunity for direct exchanges for business and partnerships. It will also include special sessions dedicated to Ministers, Mayors and general managers of public transport networks addressing key issues relating to sustainable mobility and good governance. |
