· Patrick Jeantet, Chairman UITP Bus Division and Executive Senior Vice President, Keolis Group, Paris, France
· Gérard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon, Président du Grand Lyon, Senator, Lyon, France (tbc)
Session 1- Framework / Requirements from Lyon for a green city
Chairman: Hans Rat, Secretary General, UITP, Brussels, Belgium
The car is old-fashioned. Long live public transport! In most French metropolises, a revolution is ongoing, that of mobility. The modes used for trips are manifold and the urban citizen is circulating in the same manner as he is channel hopping; changing and switching continuously. Lyon is at the forefront and well known as genuine transport laboratory.
· Sytral, the French leading business case for a global integrated concept with a system approach for bus, trolleybus and rail, what can other cities learn from that?
Bernard Rivalta, President Sytral, Lyon, France

SESSION 3a - The alliance of green buses to the provision of quality public transport and more customers (Push and Pull: the Pull effect) EN FR ES DE |
| |
Chairman: Henk Waling, Consultant Public Transport, Honorary chairman UITP Bus Committee, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Do green buses (new buses) bring more customers? Why yes, why no? Is it profitable? The economical benefits of non car use are for the community as a whole. But how to build a business case around it, where attractiveness and quality as a pull effect will have to be designed. The economic benefits and the environmental issues cannot be limited to a clean engine or a solely technological fad. A clear message must be addressed to decision makers who have tools to improve the bus performance in the system.
· Quality Time: the time in the bus and the time at the bus stop
Roberto Gerin, Convener of the UITP Working Group on Quality Time and General Manager, Trieste Trasporti, Trieste, Italy

SESSION 3b - Saving fuel burn and Measuring CO2 (carbon calculators) EN FR |
| |
Chairman: John Inglish, Chairman of the UITP Sustainable Development Commission and CEO Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City, USA
Today the battle for eliminating pollutants can be considered as won, the next challenge: cutting CO2 emissions. As each litre of diesel burnt produces 2,7 kg of CO2, the reduction of CO2 and fuel economy go hand in hand. What selection and promotion tools can be proposed? How to measure? Tailpipe or from well-to-wheel? Test bench, on the road or simulations? What is practical and easy to work with in the operators’ experience, both operationally and economically?
· Fuels, emissions, tests

SESSION 5a - Fuel choice EN FR ES DE |
| |
Chairman: Arno Kerkhof, Bus Division Manager, UITP, Brussels, Belgium
Diesel has proven remarkably able to comply with ever tougher emission regulations. It is cheap, clean, reliable and easy. The same engines can be fuelled with blends such as eco-diesel or blended with synthetic diesels like BtL or GtL. On the other hand, gas powered buses have become mainstream in numerous cities. Their introduction is always accompanied by a large media campaign to advocate for their benefits. What is the operators’ experience, both operationally and economically?
