VISION AND THEME

How to contribute?

In 2025, public transport is the preferred choice in urban mobility policy decisions. It guarantees quality of life and the sustainable development in cities and regions worldwide; it provides an attractive alternative to individual transport and succeded in doubling its market share as compared to 2009.
This outstanding result finds its origin in the Vienna Congress in 2009 where UITP showed leadership and launched its ambitious strategy ‘Public transport: the smart green solution’ aiming at doubling the market share of public transport worldwide by 2025.
The preservation of attractive and competitive cities for people and business requires a massive shift to public transport. The Congress in Dubai will display daring developments that lead to a radical paradigm shift.
The Congress theme
Efficient and sustainable transport helps stabilize the global energy market, contributes to alleviating climate change, supports economic growth and quality of life in cities by relieving congestion and offering mobility to all. Public transport means progress for societies. The current crisis creates a window of opportunity for the development of public transport.
The Dubai Congress will review the priorities identified in the UITP strategy and will be the first important milestone for UITP to take a step back and consider what has been achieved and what is still to do on the way to its vision.
To allow public transport to deliver its contribution to society in the most effective way, five strategic axes must be put in place: urban governance, business culture, investment, customers as core value and demand management.
The entire supply chain is called to mobilisation and action: authorities, operators and industry all have to review and improve their practice, efficiency and attractiveness. But it is not enough: the ambitious goal can only be achieved with supportive and commited external stakeholders. UITP is developing strong messages for them, and the Congress offers the opportunity to share and refine these messages.
Further, the topics have to be analysed in a dynamic and differentiated way. The Congress will be an opportunity to share views and approaches between different areas. Optimal solutions must always correspond to their environment - they can never be universal. However benchmarking can help to identify key success factors that are transferable worldwide.
