Global Public Transport Summit 2019: Stockholm

The UITP Executive Board announced that the host of the 2019 edition of the UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2019 will be Stockholm, Sweden. This is the largest event in public transport, gathering all transport modes, industry, authorities and operators, as well as exhibitors from all over the world.

The local host for the event will be SL, Stockholm public transport authority

Stockholm was one of the three shortlisted cities revealed last year, the other two being Barcelona and Birmingham. Over 30 cities expressed their interest to host the event which is also a major source of income for the cities where it is hosted. Having the potential to bring thousands of people into these cities, it is widely regarded as a large economic influencer.

For the 2017 edition of the Summit, taking place in Montréal in 2017, the city is estimating and economic impact in excess of 12 million euros. 

Stockholm is a world leading city for sustainable urban mobility. It is the fastest growing city in Europe, with an ambitious public transport plan representing 600 million euros of investments per year during the period 2015-2020 to ensure that this will be a sustainable growth. Stockholm is a recognized model for integrated transport and urban planning, a reference for implementing a truly multimodal transport strategy relying upon its public transport network as a backbone and offering viable alternatives to the private car. It was elected 1st European Green Capital in 2010, it is at the vanguard for the implementation of clean and energy efficient public transport solutions on rail and road.

Stockholm benefits at national level from the strong support of the Swedish Association of Public Transport and its members. The city has also been selected for its state of the art, fully integrated congress and exhibition facilities and a long experience in hosting large events.

According to the Director of Strategic Development at Stockholm County Council, Transport Administration, Jens Plambeck, "Stockholm County Council, Transport Administration is very happy and honoured to host the Global Public Transport Summit in 2019. The efforts and forth coming, made by Stockholm County Council, The Swedish Public Transport Association, Stockholmsmässan and the City of Stockholm will globally provide an attractive and interesting summit for delegates and exhibitors. Stockholm is looking forward to see you all in 2019."

The event will take place between 10 and 12 June 2019.
