This is the first UITP activity in Ethiopia and it’s also the biggest training partnership for UITP in Africa so far.

The first 3 modules already organised focused on topics of regulation of public transport, taxis, urban planning, parking management, ICT & smart mobility and data collection, bus network design and operations planning. There will be 2 more modules in November and December.

To complement this programme, a delegation from Addis Ababa attended the ‘Capacity Building Training Programme: Leaders in Urban Transport’ held in Dubai, UAE, in April. Addis Ababa executives also joined a 7-day training programme in Istanbul, Turkey, last September which included a learning visit to Istanbul’s urban transport authority, operators and industry.

UITP Secretary General Alain Flausch shared that UITP is closely following the new developments in Addis Ababa for sustainable mobility. Mr Flausch continued to say that Addis Ababa could become a good example for other African cities with new initiatives and UITP is ready to give full support to those developments.  Dr. Solomon Kidane, Director of Addis Ababa City Roads and Transport Authority underlined that Addis Ababa takes public transport as a priority to solve the congestion problem and they are very glad to partner with UITP.
