Advanced BIObased polyurethanes and fibres for the autoMOTIVE industry with increased environmental sustainability
The BIOMOTIVE project will pave the ground towards the production and subsequent market penetration of bio-based automotive interior parts with enhanced technical performance, improved environmental profile and economic competitiveness, with the aim of replacing the fossil-based, non-biodegradable counterparts. Within the project, innovative and advanced bio-based materials with an increased biobased content (60-80%) will be produced starting from renewable biomass feedstock not in competition with food and feed, leveraging innovative production techniques. Such materials will be validated into cars’ interior parts (door handles and automotive seats) demonstrating advanced properties in terms of resistance to fire, mechanical strength and flexibility as well as improved recyclability of the end-of-life products.
To ensure the interest of the project activities, the UITP is in charge of an external stakeholders group, involving players operating in sectors that are crucial to the project - in particular public transport authorities, public transport companies and automotive companies. These stakeholders will be involved during the project to discuss on the requirements, exchanging important feedback and comments on the expected biomaterials performances and costs. According to specific interests, the stakeholders will be also invited to experience the outcomes of the project during the demonstration days. This group will also provide support to define new scenarios for enlarging the market opportunities for the bio-based materials paving the grounds towards the achievement of consistent impacts at EU level.
