Advocacy & Outreach

Grow your influence with UITP

As one of its three missions, UITP engages with decision makers, international organisations and other key stakeholders to promote and defend public transport and sustainable mobility solutions.

In order to secure a supportive policy and business environment for public transport, UITP promotes the idea that public transport should play a major role in any urban mobility policy. By highlighting its benefits beyond the mobility sphere, UITP also promotes public transport within the wider policy framework.

Advocacy activities support UITP’s strategy for public transport by aligning stakeholders outside the public transport sector with the strategy objectives. Read more...

Advocacy targets

The targets of UITP’s advocacy activities include: decision makers in local and national governments (in urban planning, transport, finance, health); European institutions, the business community and urban visionaries (such as planners, architects, journalists).

UITP employs two methods to get its message across. Firstly, by developing advocacy tools to provide its members with messages and evidence that they can use for their own advocacy activities. Secondly, by engaging with relevant international forums - where advocacy targets can be addressed collectively – to ensure public transport-related issues are at the top of international agendas.

Advocacy messages

UITP’s advocacy messages are determined by the output of UITP’s expert groups, emerging trends and developments outside of public transport and the needs of the public transport sector as a whole. UITP puts a strong emphasis on the development of compelling and original evidence in order to strengthen its policy messages.
