Observatory of employment in public transport - Report 1

Observatory of employment in public transport - 1
April 2011
  • Corporate management & human resources
  • Market organisation & institutional framework

The Observatory of Employment in Public Transport aims to provide key figures and arguments to support the advocacy efforts of UITP and its members regarding the importance of employment and recruitment in the public transport sector. It has been launched under the patronage of the Business and Human Resources Management Commission within UITP.

The first edition of the Observatory of Employment in Public Transport provided, for the first time, a worldwide estimate of the number of jobs created by urban public transport. In 2009 some 13 million people worked for either an operator company, an urban organising authority or in the supply chain of public transport worldwide. Moreover, public transport provides green jobs which cannot be outsourced, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
