Fruitful Asia-Pacific Seminar in Kuala Lumpur
MORE than 100 delegates from 14 countries attended the UITP Asia-Pacific Seminar: ‘Making Public Transport of Tomorrow Happen’ in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 23-25 November.
This seminar saw many high-level speakers from different continents exchange and inspire ideas on hot issues ranging from infrastructure and roles of different actors to integration processes and financing schemes for tomorrow’s public transport.
During the seminar, Dr Eum Sung Jick, CEO & President of SMRT, Korea, and of UITP’s Asia-Pacific Division, welcomed four newly nominated Vice-Chairmen. Executive Committee is now composed of the following members: YAM Ah Mee, LTA Singapore; Carolan BERNIE, MetLink Australia; Morris CHEUNG, MTRC Hong Kong; Dato’ Idrose MOHAMED, Prasarana Malaysia; SUN Jianping, SMTPA China; Hisashi UMEZAKI, Tokyo Metro and TSAY Huel-Sheng, TRTC Taiwan for managing the division strategically.

Study tour to UK for Indian delegation

A DELEGATION from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), India, comprising senior executives K J S Naidu, Commissioner of Railway
Safety, Southern Circle, Bangalore; Rajkumar Gupta, Dy. CRS (S &T), Mumbai;
Mohit Sonakiya, Dy.CRS (ET), Lucknow; and Devendra Ramtekkar, Chief
Engineer Reach-2, BMRCL, Bangalore, visited London Underground, UK, and
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), Glasgow, between 23 and 26 November. They were there to study various issues pertaining to construction, certification, operations, electrification, signalling and communication systems in metro networks.
The delegation met with the senior executives of London Underground and SPT Glasgow and exchanged knowledge and experiences. They visited the Operating Control Centre and underground stations of London Underground and maintenance depots at SPT Glasgow. Miryam Hernandez, Junior Manager Metro, Brussels and DC Prakash, Head of UITP India Office, Bangalore accompanied the delegation during their visit.
