Eurasia
UITP aims to act as a centre of knowledge and platform for exchange and discussion of the common problems and issues of public transport actors from Eurasian countries. It brings together UITP members from the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belorussia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Moldova.
Taking into consideration the specific needs of its Eurasian members, UITP created the Eurasian Committee bringing together all members from the region. As a further step and in order to better answer to members’ needs, UITP launched the Eurasian Division, at its 57th World Congress in Helsinki in May 2007.
The launch of the UITP Eurasian Division
- the Eurasian Assembly, an open meeting of all UITP members of the region;
- the Eurasian Executive Committee, a working body planning and carrying out the activities of the Division.
The Eurasian Assembly is an open meeting of all UITP members in the Eurasia region serving as a forum for liaison, knowledge exchanges and professional discussion on all topics related to public transport in the countries of Eurasia.
In coordination with the UITP General Secretariat, the Eurasian Executive Committee makes proposals on the business plan of the Division subject to an approval by the Eurasian Assembly, develops programmes of the regional workshops and conferences, and prepares regional publications and official position papers.
What are the principal goals?
The UITP Eurasian Division will addresses a wide range of public transport issues and work to support pro-public transport policies in the Russian Federation and the CIS region as well as the activities of the Committee. Principle concerns since its conception are:
- Fare collection
- Rolling stock
- Regulatory framework
A Russian cover-to-cover version of Public Transport International (UITP's bi-monthly magazine for transport professionals) is published by the Metro Association of Russia & CIS in partnership with UITP.
