The Latin American Division was created at the 2003 UITP World Congress in Madrid, Spain. It enjoyed the cooperation from the Brazilian Association of Public Transport (ANTP) and the support from the Association of Latin American Metros (ALAMYS). The regional office was established in 2005 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

    What are its principal goals?

One of the greatest challenges facing the region is how to provide mobility in an efficient, equitable and sustainable manner for an ever-increasing urban population. The creation of this Division is an excellent opportunity to improve public transport in Latin America, while at the same time allowing other countries in the world to learn from its experience. Dissemination of the rising number of successful practices in Latin America will be a focus of the Division.
