The 2011 Congress will be the first important milestone for UITP to take a halt and consider what has been achieved and what is still to do on the way to its vision.

Bus Conference and Study tour in France, June 2010
With the freshly presented public transport sector strategy (in Vienna 2009) UITP sets the ambition to double public transport’s market share by 2025. That buses have a role to play is obvious but the central question in the conference will be: how can green buses attract more passengers? How can the economic benefits of non car use and the environmental issues involved be combined with the provision of quality public transport? Are green buses pushing or pulling car drivers and non users onto the public transport network?

Special rates for MENA members and groups of minimum 3 participants.

2nd MENA Congress and Showcase: Turning ideas into reality
AFTER its first edition in Dubai, the UITP Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Congress & Showcase has become a key event for public transport professionals and experts working in and for the MENA countries.
The second edition was hosted by Mowasalat in Doha, Qatar on 25-27 October 2009 with the theme ‘Public transport in the MENA region: Turning ideas into reality’. At the opening ceremony, Jassim al Sulaiti, Mowasalat Chairman, and Abdulaziz Al Ohaly, Chairman of UITP MENA Division and Deputy Minister of Transport in Saudi Arabia welcomed around 300 delegates from more than 30 countries.
“The theme of our Congress and Showcase shows that after a period of diagnosis and analysis of the situation, MENA cities have moved to project design and many of them to implementation,” said Dr. Abdulaziz Al Ohaly.
In his keynote speech, Alain Flausch, UITP President, presented the Public Transport Strategy and emphasized the dynamism and ambition of the MENA region. “The MENA region is on the right track,” said Mr Flausch.
The event featured eight sessions, demonstrating the vigour of transport actors and authorities in the region and a showcase of 29 exhibitors representing diverse transports products and services. Alstom Transport was awarded the prize of the most innovative product for its APS ground-level power supply system.
All delegates and speakers appreciated very much this valuable opportunity for networking and knowledge sharing. Thank you to our host Mowasalat for the excellent organisation.
