Regional session - Motorcycles & public transport: how to win this competition?

For registered delegates and Exhibition visitors

There is common scenario among several developing countries; the motorcycle is often a preferred modal instead of public transport.

Preliminary evaluations show that a motorcycle of which the consumption is 36 km/l and the tank has a capacity of only four liters can run 144 kilometers. In Latin America; that means that the user is running almost the entire week with a tank of fuel, spending approximately 4 € per week; the same distance in public transport will cost 16 €. Therefore, a popular motorcycle is a good business.

But we know that the social impact of motorcycle is very high: the high atmospheric pollution, human and financial losses caused by traffic accidents and high congestion are the principal factors of negative impact.
We invite people to debate the issues and possible solutions. Meet local realities can give us tools to combat the problem.

Public Transport and Large Events: A Winning Team - followed by a technical visit (15.30-17.30)

Reserved exclusively to Congress delegates

Hosting a large public event has become an important element of the strategy of cities and regions to attract visitors and investments. The planning and the management of large events require a careful preparation of public transport undertakings and the development of close partnerships with, amongst others, event organizers and public authorities.

Indeed transport and mobility are very visible and sensitive sectors. Therefore the reliability and the organisation of the movements, whilst handling the back traffic, represent the keys to a successful event.

Realizing that a number of UITP members are facing the organisation of large events and that UITP could provide them with highly valuable support by promoting and structuring the exchange of information with members having experience in this field, UITP launched in 2008 a working group which gathers worldwide experts designated by interested UITP Committees and Commissions.
