In Motion Charging (IMC) represents the evolution of proven trolleybus technology, merging the reliability of grid-connected power with the flexibility of battery-electric operation. This synergy creates a supremely efficient solution for high-demand public transport.

IMC trolleybuses offer high passenger capacity, unlimited range on wired sections, 24/7 operation, and significant economic and environmental advantages.

They are ideally suited for high-frequency services, Electric Bus Rapid Transit (e-BRT), and routes in challenging climates with high energy demands for heating and cooling.

This course provides a cutting-edge overview of IMC systems, from foundational principles to advanced planning and implementation strategies.

Delivered via 6 online sessions of 2 hours across 2 weeks, it is designed to equip participants with the knowledge to deploy and optimise this transformative technology.

What You Will Learn

  • Gain a global overview of IMC best practices and its synergies within integrated mobility systems.
  • Understand the technical fundamentals of IMC technology, including onboard systems, energy management, and infrastructure.
  • Master the strategic and financial planning for IMC projects, including Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and funding models.
  • Learn to plan and develop efficient IMC trolleybus operations, including route design and operational integration with e-buses.
  • Navigate the procurement, commissioning, and public engagement processes successfully.
  • Explore emerging trends including digitalisation, grid interaction, and lifecycle analysis.
  • Benefit from a conducive platform for knowledge exchange and networking with UITP’s international community of experts.

Who is it for?

  • Staff from bus transport operators, authorities (PTAs), and city planning departments.
  • Professionals from bus operations, engineering, sustainability, and finance divisions.
  • Consultants and industry representatives involved in the zero-emission bus sector.
  • Anyone seeking a wider international perspective on robust and sustainable electric bus solutions.
