Introduction

The UITP North America Forum 2026 is an annual gathering that unites transit leaders, public authorities, industry suppliers, and policymakers from across the continent and the globe.

Connecting regional expertise with UITP’s international network, the forum has become one of the most important platforms for knowledge exchange and collaboration in urban public transport.

Taking place October 28th-30th, the 9th edition of the forum will be proudly hosted by the Autorité Régionale de Transport Métropolitain (ARTM) in the vibrant city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

ARTM serves as the regional planning and funding authority for the Greater Montreal area, overseeing integrated mobility across a vast multimodal network that includes metro, commuter rail, bus rapid transit, and the landmark Réseau express métropolitain (REM), one of North America’s most ambitious automated rapid transit projects.

Why Attend?

Drawing on the success of prior editions, including the 2025 Conference in Los Angeles hosted with LA Metro, which explored themes of ridership innovation, AI, zero-emission mobility, and autonomous transit, the 2026 North America Forum will advance the dialogue on the continent’s most critical mobility challenges.

Montréal is no ordinary host city. As one of Canada’s most dynamic metropolitan centres and home to a world-renowned transit ecosystem, it brings a distinctive perspective to the North America Forum.

The city’s transit authority, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), operates one of the busiest metro systems in North America, while the REM, a fully automated, electrically powered light metro network under the stewardship of ARTM, represents a bold new chapter in urban rail development.

Hosting the Forum in Montréal will allow you to witness firsthand how governance innovation, infrastructure investment, and technological modernization can come together to reshape a metropolitan mobility network, making it an ideal backdrop for the discussions ahead.

Technical Tours

A number of technical tours will be organised. These tours offer exclusive behind-the-scenes acess to major transit projects. Capacity is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Réseau express métropolitain (REM) | Metropolitan Express Network

Discover the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), a fully automated light metro system and one of North America’s most advanced rapid transit projects. Operating at GoA4 (unattended train operation), the all-electric REM currently serves 23 stations across 64 kilometers, with an airport link under construction. The tour will highlight its distinctive fleet and station design, platform screen doors, advanced automation technology, and the modern passenger experience that has established REM as a landmark transit project for the Montréal region.

Projet ligne bleue | Blue Line Extension

Join STM for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of Canada’s largest urban transit infrastructure projects. This technical tour showcases the 6-kilometre Blue Line Extension, which will add five fully accessible stations to Montréal’s east end. Participants will gain insight into Montréal’s first metro tunnels to be excavated using a tunnel boring machine, the engineering and construction challenges of building in a dense urban environment, and the project’s integration with future multimodal connections that will improve mobility across the region.

Centre de transport Bellechasse | Bellechasse Bus Depot

Explore one of North America’s most innovative bus maintenance and operations facilities. The Bellechasse Bus Depot is the continent’s first underground bus garage, designed to integrate seamlessly into a dense urban neighborhood while minimizing surface impacts. This technical tour will highlight its multi-level design, sustainable features, facilities supporting a fleet of approximately 250 buses, and the engineering and operational considerations behind this unique transit infrastructure project.

Le SRB Pie-IX | Pie-IX BRT

Discover one of Montréal’s key bus rapid transit corridors, designed to provide high-frequency east–west service across the metropolitan region. Running along Pie-IX Boulevard, the system features dedicated center-running bus lanes, accessible stations, and transit signal priority to improve reliability and shorten travel times. The corridor links the cities of Montréal and Laval and connects directly to Pie-IX Station on Montréal Metro’s Green Line, forming an important transfer point within the wider regional transit network. The tour will highlight the project’s role in improving regional bus priority infrastructure and the coordinated delivery across multiple transit agencies and levels of government.
