A companion can create a remote travel plan and send it to the disabled individual. Live location tracking can be enabled. The disabled person can easily complete their journey using the plan created by their companion. The system handles everything.

About this Project

Our mobile application offers a new solution by enabling companion assignment and route planning. The companion can remotely send the planned route to the disabled individual’s account and if permitted, they can track the individual’s location during the journey.

The application allows users to plan their trips between two points. The disabled individual enters their route into the system, which then transmits this information to the bus, allowing the driver to proceed once they arrive at the stop and confirm the passenger has boarded.

The passenger’s details are displayed on the driver’s DCP screen.
The collected data helps municipalities optimize their schedules and vehicle planning, increasing accessibility for disabled passengers.

Key Highlights

Existing systems typically share the location of individuals with disabilities with bus drivers. However, the new system aims to assist companions in planning trips for disabled individuals before their journey.

Users can create a travel plan from the starting point to the destination.
The application will have two different modes: Disabled Mode and Companion Mode.

In Companion Mode, the companion can create a travel plan through the application and send it to the disabled individual. Based on granted permissions, the companion will be able to track the disabled individual’s location and travel movements.

A single application will provide different services tailored to the specific needs of disabled individuals, companions, and other users.

Facts & Figures

  • This project has been launched live in Tekirdağ, Turkey, enabling individuals with disabilities to travel independently and reducing the need for physical companions.
  • The increasing independence of disabled individuals in public transportation decreases occupancy rates in public transport vehicles and allows for more efficient route and bus planning based on data collected from the 147,132 mobile app users in the city.
  • By providing an alternative to taxis and private vehicles, the application helps lower additional fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Given that 370,311 people use transportation cards, integrating mobile app data with overall transit usage can further enhance accessibility and sustainability in urban mobility.
