Interreg supports cooperation across borders under the EU’s cohesion policy. Its four strands cover cross-border cooperation, transnational cooperation, interregional cooperation and cooperation involving the EU’s outermost regions and neighbouring countries or territories.

Public transport organisations may participate in eligible projects addressing shared territorial challenges. Examples include cross-border services, integrated passenger information, sustainable mobility planning and the testing of new transport solutions.

Eligibility depends on the programme’s geographic area, priorities, partnership requirements and open calls. Projects must demonstrate the cooperation benefits required by the programme. EU co-financing is generally up to 80%, although programme-specific rates and exceptions apply.

Availability differs between programmes. Interreg Europe has committed its 2021–2027 project-call budget and does not plan further open calls, while other Interreg programmes continue to offer opportunities.

Applicants should use the Interreg programme map and calls database to identify suitable programmes and contact the relevant programme secretariat before developing a proposal.
