Pre-LSDemo prepares the ground for future large-scale demonstrations of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) across Europe, bringing societal readiness into the planning process from the start. Public transport operators and authorities have played a significant part in CCAM research from the beginning. As the sector moves from pilot projects towards sustainable long-term deployment, the work of Pre-LSDemo will be particularly important in setting future directions.

Preparing Europe for Large Scale CCAM Demonstrations

Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) has made significant progress through European and national research but scaling these innovations into large-scale demonstrations remains challenging due (in part) to fragmented approaches across mobility domains. Pre-LSDemo (Preparing for Large Scale Demonstrations), a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action, addresses this by developing a harmonised framework for future CCAM demonstrations across individual mobility, public and shared transport, as well as freight and logistics.

A key strength of Pre-LSDemo is that it integrates societal readiness with technological, regulatory and operational readiness from the jump. Through stakeholder engagement and co-creation, the project promotes public trust, inclusiveness and transparency while aligning evaluation methods, identifying barriers and opportunities, and mapping demonstration use cases and sites.

The project’s goal is to deliver a comprehensive demonstration plan for CCAM, supported by a technological and societal co-evolution framework. It brings together stakeholders to improve collaboration, assess demonstration readiness, refine testing methodologies, and develop communication and outreach strategies that support the successful deployment of large-scale CCAM demonstrations across Europe.
