As cities accelerate their transition towards zero-emission mobility, hydrogen buses are emerging as a key solution to complement battery-electric fleets, especially for demanding routes and large-scale operations.

Developed by the UITP Academy with the support of the JIVE2 project, this self-paced eLearning course provides a comprehensive introduction to hydrogen bus systems and their role in sustainable urban mobility.

The course is structured into five short modules (approximately 10-15 minutes each), allowing learners to progress at their own pace:

1. Introduction to Hydrogen Buses
   Fundamentals of fuel cell technology, hydrogen characteristics, market trends, and policy drivers
2. Building the Business Case
   Key considerations for project development, financing, planning, and cost assessment
3. Planning Deployment and Operations
   Infrastructure needs, hydrogen supply, refuelling stations, and fleet integration
4. Operations, Safety, and Maintenance
   Daily operations, safety requirements, maintenance strategies, and workforce training
5. Procurement and Market Overview
   Tendering processes, supplier landscape, and procurement models for hydrogen systems

The programme integrates insights and lessons learned from large-scale European deployments under the JIVE2 initiative, providing practical knowledge grounded in real-world experience.

Interactive elements such as quizzes, videos, and additional resources—including JIVE2 reports and case studies—enhance the learning experience.
