Introduction

Fares are one of the most powerful levers public transport organisations have. They shape ridership, financial sustainability, social inclusion and the customer experience at the same time.

Alongside them, non-fare revenue from advertising, retail, property, data and partnerships offers a growing opportunity to diversify income and reduce dependence on public funding.

This UITP Academy online programme on Fare and Non-Fare Revenue Management in Public Transport offers a practical and integrated view of both, from tariff design and pricing policy to fare integration, ticketing, commercial revenue streams and performance monitoring.

Most days combine an expert session with a case study from a public transport operator or authority, drawn from different regions of the world, and the programme concludes with an online workshop where participants apply their learning to a real revenue challenge.

What You Will Learn

  • Understanding the full revenue landscape of public transport, from fares to non-fare income.
  • Designing tariff structures and fare products adapted to different network and customer contexts.
  • Setting fare levels and fare policies that balance cost coverage, affordability, equity and ridership.
  • Planning fare integration and understanding how ticketing technology enables modern fare policies.
  • Designing fare systems that are transparent and inclusive, including for passengers without a smartphone or bank card.
  • Identifying, structuring and governing non-fare revenue opportunities across commercial, property, data and infrastructure assets.
  • Protecting revenue and reducing fare evasion through inspection, revenue assurance and behavioural approaches.
  • Monitoring fare and non-fare performance through a clear KPI framework and revenue dashboard.
  • Learning from real public transport case studies from different regions and applying them in a final group workshop.

Who is it for?

  • Managers from public transport operators and authorities working on revenue, finance, commercial, fare policy and ticketing functions.
  • Professionals responsible for commercial assets, advertising, property and partnerships.
  • Policy makers and regulators involved in fare setting and public compensation.
  • Professionals from consultancies and solution providers supporting public transport organisations on revenue and ticketing.
  • The course is suitable for participants from companies worldwide.

A good level of English is a compulsory requirement to attend the training.
