The aim of this course is to provide attendees with a full overview of what is at stake in the building and maintaining of travel information and wayfinding systems focused on user needs and expectations.

The course will introduce and illustrate a practical toolbox of methods needed to design and deliver efficient and effective travel information provision throughout public transport user journeys, organised in five main categories – space-related information, time-related information, navigation/orientation, user behaviour and service disruption mitigation.

The course will focus on how to improve existing public travel information/wayfinding systems to ensure relevance in current, real-world environments and will be combined with a workshop offering hands-on experience to participants.

The course features 8 interactive sessions and includes a workshop.

This session will explore the fundamentals of signage as the basis for passenger information design: pictograms, colours, semiotic and semantic principles. It will analyse how visual messages are perceived and interpreted by users, and how good signage contributes to the coherence and accessibility of the network.
