Introduction

Digitalisation in Public Transport is a practice-oriented programme designed for public transport authorities and operators in the MENA region who want to strengthen how they collect, manage and use data, and how they deploy digital platforms and AI to improve operations, customer experience and decision-making.

The programme combines data & BI foundations, ITS and AI applications, and the enabling environment: open data/partnerships, governance and cybersecurity—and concludes with a technical visit to Mwasalat facilities in Muscat to connect classroom learning with real operational realities.

  • Get inspired by trainers, understand the main aspects of cybersecurity
  • Participate in interactive plenary sessions with an introduction by course leaders, presentation by trainers, and open discussions with participants
  • Challenge your practical knowledge of cybersecurity and other similar threats
  • Address the topic from an international perspective, enriched by different cultural approaches and points of view
  • Participate in practical exercises and case studies
  • Benefit from a unique exchange of knowledge and experience between professionals
  • Exchange experiences and discuss key topics during workshops in smaller groups

What You Will Learn

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how data improves public transport performance and define the right questions, indicators and decision routines.
  • Identify and prioritise key data sources and technologies (ITS components, AVL/telematics, ticketing/payment, passenger data, IoT) needed to measure and manage mobility.
  • Understand Mobility as a Service (MaaS) concept, implementation steps, IT requirements, user engagement, and the role of data sharing and privacy.
  • Recognise where AI, Big Data and Machine Learning can deliver value (customer service, operational efficiency, asset management, safety & security), and how to select realistic use-cases.
  • Apply a structured approach to KPI frameworks, dashboard thinking, and performance monitoring for operational excellence.
  • Understand the building blocks of autonomous mobility services (operations, physical/digital infrastructure, business models, deployment considerations).
  • Strengthen organisational readiness through policy, governance, culture and training, and understand what critical ICT infrastructure must be protected.
  • Identify cyber risks and apply core principles to protect critical systems, including attack surface thinking and mitigation approaches.

Who is it for?

This programme is designed for professionals across the MENA public transport ecosystem, including:

  • Public transport authorities (planning, performance, contracts, customer experience, digital strategy)
  • Operators (bus, metro, rail) and operational leaders (control centre, service planning, depot/maintenance)
  • ITS / ICT / Digital transformation teams (data platforms, integration, passenger information)
  • Data/BI analysts and performance managers responsible for dashboards and KPIs
  • Cybersecurity, risk, and governance stakeholders overseeing critical systems and policies
  • Industry partners supporting digital, data, AI, MaaS and payments/ticketing solutions
