Fast and Smart Charging Solutions for Full Size Urban Heavy Duty Applications
ASSURED aimed to boost the electrification of urban commercial vehicles and their integration with high-power fast-charging infrastructure, evaluating several infrastructures in different cities across Europe.
Launched in October 2017, the project focused on developing and testing high-power solutions for full-size, heavy-duty urban applications.
Each solution was designed to charge various vehicle types and supply energy to entire bus fleets.
Innovative charging-management strategies reduced noise, air pollution, and both operational costs and total cost of ownership.
The project also strengthened grid stability to ensure a secure energy supply – critical as more vehicles depend on charging infrastructure.
To achieve this, ASSURED tested six public transport buses, two garbage trucks, one delivery truck, and one light commercial delivery vehicle using automatic fast charging that required no human interaction.
The trials covered pantograph, plug-in, and wireless technologies to enable different vehicles to share the same infrastructure.
By demonstrating true interoperability of charging solutions for the first time, ASSURED helped lower costs and advance the standardisation of high-power charging infrastructure.
