Sascha Meyer, CEO, Moia & Shared Mobility Division Vice-Chair

The objective of this session is to give voice to participants regarding the main issues surrounding shared mobility in 2025. We will crowdsource what are major bottlenecks and potential solutions on the way to scale up shared mobility services as a form of public transport. Five speakers will deliver a 5-minute presentation each on one key question (below).

2. Roles of PTAs and PTOs in Public Mobility: Daniela Wieser, Head of Multimodal Mobility, Wiener Linien
3. Measuring impact of shared micromobility: Jeffrey Matthijs, Director & Bram Seeuws, Project and policy coordinator, WayToGo
4. Reforming taxis: Kaan Yildizgoz, MODAXO
5. AV needs in public transport: Benjamin Scher, MovingFutures

The presentations are based on particular examples or case studies as a gateway to the wider topic. Once the presentations are delivered, participants will be asked to join the discussion table with the key topic they found most appealing. Each table will produce a problem statement of 1 or 2 lines, explaining why the key question is relevant for shared mobility and its future; identify 3 major bottlenecks related to that key question; and identify 3 possible solutions, or way forward.

After an open call for interest, the following participants will pitch their services, products or a specific need for partners.

2. Darian Heim, Head of Mobility at Simdle Mobility will pitch “27 vehicles for the price of 7 – Enhancing the cost efficiency of demand-responsive transport with taxis”
3. Brian Holland, COO at Shared-Use Mobility Center will pitch “Shared Mobility and Systems Change, For Better or Worse”
4. Ali Halabi, Founder and CEO at Volt Lines will pitch “Case Study on Volt Lines’ DRT and Empty-Seats-Marketplace”
5. Ingo Bruse, Sales Director Europe at Imagry will pitch “How to Cost-Effectively Increase Bus Frequency and Operating Hours Despite the Driver Shortage”
6. Tommaso Bonino, Technical director at SRM Bologna will pitch “How to set up tenders to encourage good actors and cooperation”
7. Stephanie Altemöller, Lead Strategic Communications at INVERS GmbH will pitch “Making car sharing work to accelerate the mobility transition”
8. Pierre Chehwan, VP Head of Growth at Beti will pitch “Why autonomous mobility system matters”
9. Lidia Signor, Head of Multimodal Mobility at UITP will pitch “Shared Mobility in UITP”

Each presenter will have 3 minutes to pitch their idea to the audience, without the use of slides. After all pitches are completed, participants will be invited to select their three preferred proposals. Following this, every presenter will host a dedicated networking table, where interested attendees can join them for an in-depth discussion about their offer.

The networking tables component will be divided in 3 rounds of 15 minutes. At each round, participants are invited to join one of the tables of their favorite pitches, where the “pitcher” will be seating to have a more in-depth exchange. This gives participants the opportunity to make business connections with at least 3 “pitchers” and the “pitchers” to talk to up to 30 people in a structured manner. Each round is marked by a clear announcement to make people move. The final 10 minutes are devoted to free discovery for people to make the last connections.

The main objective of the brokerage session is to offer an opportunity for attendees to have a fully commercial and structured networking moment to find each other based on ones needs and others offers. The objective for the person pitching is 1) to state a need for which they are looking for partners (this is particularly relevant for authorities, but could also be useful for operators and industry) and to 2) inform about and sell a product or service (relevant for operators and industry).

Circling back to the “Interactive Session – Discussion Tables”, the facilitators/presenters of that session will be invited to report to the plenary the outputs of their respective discussions.

Also recalling the panels of the first day, Sascha Meyer will then  guide a final debate to wrap up the meeting, pinging the 5 presenters and the audience with the objective to answer the questions:

• What are the overall trends we identified?
• Common obstacles?
• Common solutions?

The technical visit will include a first stop at the Şehir Hatları (City Lines) Shipyard that builds the Istanbul sea taxis. It is the oldest shipyard in the world still active.

The visit will continue with a panoramic trip onboard of a sea taxi from the European to the Asian side of Istanbul. See in this video how this is changing Istanbul’s mobility

The technical visit concludes with a guided tour of the Caferağa neighbourhood, where WRI Türkiye is leading a community-driven initiative to create a more sustainable, inclusive and livable urban environment, also by leveraging shared and on-demand mobility.
