Preparing for the World Stage: Public Transport Strategies for Global Events
Organisers
Introduction
Los Angeles is no stranger to the spotlight. As a global entertainment and sports capital—and the future host of the 2028 Summer Olympics and FIFA World Cup 2026 matches—LA is once again preparing to welcome the world.
Managing transportation for large-scale international events requires meticulous planning, deep collaboration, and a clear vision for legacy.
With millions of visitors expected and the stakes higher than ever, regional mobility agencies and partners will play a central role in delivering a seamless experience while shaping the long-term impact of these events on the city’s mobility landscape.
On October 23, UITP will host a workshop in Los Angeles, California, alongside the UITP North America Conference, to advance best practices in preparing for large events.
This workshop follows previous editions in Newark and Dallas and continues the global conversation on how to effectively plan, operate, and sustain transportation systems during major events.
From the Olympics to the World Cup, this session will feature lessons from global mega-events, expert insights on stakeholder coordination, and a facilitated discussion on transportation readiness for the 2026 and 2028 games.
The focus is not only on delivering exceptional service during the events, but also on ensuring they leave behind a lasting legacy for transit and urban mobility in North America.
Disclaimer:
This workshop is by invitation only. Due to limited capacity, participation is restricted to invited guests.
