UITP is announcing a change in the association’s leadership as our President Renée Amilcar is stepping down from her role.

Due to necessary commitments to her new role as Chief Executive Officer and President of Mobilité Infra Québec, the President must focus on her position in Québec, resulting in an earlier end to her latest two-year mandate.

With Renée remaining in post to allow for a smooth transition within the leadership, the immediate process will begin to finalise the appointment of the new President.

First elected to the Presidency during the General Assembly at the 2023 UITP Summit, the President was overwhelmingly re-elected by the association’s membership with a 100% mandate during the most recent Summit in Hamburg, June 2025.

Now, after serving in the role for two-and-a-half years, Renée Amilcar departs her role with UITP having become the association’s first female President in 2023.

“To say that serving as UITP President has been my greatest professional privilege would be an understatement. However, I will take all that I have learnt from my role, and put it into delivering the best mobility options for the people of Quebec. UITP has been a huge part of my life, and although I will be sad to step down, I will ensure that the transition towards new leadership is smooth. As a passionate optimist, I know that UITP and the association’s strong spirit will thrive in the times ahead. Thank you to all of you for your warmth and support.” Renée Amilcar, UITP President

With almost 40 international speeches delivered during her terms, and an intervention on the floor of the United Nations as a first for UITP, the President has been a visible and powerful advocate for our association, and our sector.

Playing a leadership role in the launch of our brand-new four-year Strategic Plan, Renée Amilcar has placed a strong focus on UITP’s long-term sustainability as an association, with people as the main thread of our direction.

“I would like to personally thank Renée for her leadership and the positive impact she has had on our association, on our colleagues, our membership and the sector. She has been an eloquent advocate for public transport, and a passionate supporter of UITP for more than 15 years. On behalf of UITP, we wish her the very best in Québec, and I know her legacy will be felt across our association and membership.” Mohamed Mezghani, UITP Secretary General

Our work will continue without interruption, and our focus remains on serving our members and advancing our mission. This transition will be managed smoothly, ensuring continuity, and our strategic direction remains unchanged.

We wish the President the best of luck in her new role in Québec!
