The official 2029 bid process begins

The UITP Summit has long been the date of expectation in the calendar of all sector professionals, with each host city becoming the public transport capital of the world during the event activities.

After wrapping a memorable edition this year in Hamburg, we already have our next host city lined up to carry forward the achievements made in 2025, before returning to Hamburg in 2027.

Next April, it will be Destination Dubai when the UITP Summit heads to the UAE for the first time in 15 years (21-23 April 2026). The Summit itself will also be celebrating its 140th anniversary!

Now, we’re setting our sights even further towards the future by announcing that the official call to express an interest in hosting the 2029 edition of the UITP Summit is open.

Will your city join our illustrious group in the final year of the decade?

A new format for our global gathering…

By refocusing our activities on hosting annual editions, we will bring a better balance to our approach of putting people first.

Now, with our brilliant 2025 edition held, and Dubai 2026 well on the way, we’ve also been bringing you information on our 2028 bid process with Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Vancouver bidding to host.

But that doesn’t mean we’re not ready to talk about 2029, and officially invite you to bid!

Certain rules apply, so we encourage you to make yourself familiar with them before bidding.

For the 2029 edition, cities within Europe are invited to bid.

All interested applicants must send their official application by email and courier no later than 5th March 2026.

All applicants will be reviewed once the call for application has closed, and then those successful will be invited to officially bid from 21st April 2026.

The bidding process is naturally very detailed and informative, and after each step is taken – including the review of those short-listed applicants – the winning host will be announced in late January 2027.

Hosting an event of this size and importance represents a major contribution to the economy of each host city, and the chance to push public transport up the agenda in your city, region, and country.

The objective is not only to create special moments, together, but to build lasting change, and a legacy left behind in each host city: for passengers, people, and public transport.
