The European Commission created the Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM) two years ago as a platform for collaboration, fostering stronger engagement from Member States and enhancing dialogue with cities, regions, and stakeholders on urban mobility matters.

The EGUM Subgroup on Public Transport and Shared Mobility, co-chaired by UITP and Ile-de-France Region, has successfully delivered all five reports requested under the 2023-24 work programme of the Commission Expert Group on Urban Mobility.

The Reports Cover Five Key Topics:

  • How to ensure prioritisation of public transport in urban areas
  • How to increase public transport inclusiveness, and how to deal with the worker shortage and evolving skill requirements of the public transport sector
  • The optimal ways of complementing public transport with shared mobility solutions
  • Financing public transport
  • Social climate fund

One of the case studies presented is the UPPER project, which exemplifies how research and innovation can be leveraged to improve public transport systems and promote sustainable urban mobility.

By integrating advanced technologies and innovative management strategies, UPPER aims to improve service efficiency, accessibility, and user satisfaction, contributing to the broader urban mobility goals set by the European Commission

The European Commission and EGUM members are now working on the 2025 work programme to further advance urban mobility goals.
