Summary

New EU legislation such as the Clean Corporate Vehicles initiative should help to promote public transport services. As often, the success of this legislation will depend on how carefully it is drafted and how the reality of public transport (and other transport) services is reflected in the legislation.

Contents:

  • Recognise the complexity and higher costs of operating heavy-duty vehicles;
  • Ensure legal clarity by complementing existing legislation without overlaps;
  • Set ambitious yet achievable targets for all vehicle types;
  • Clarify how additional investments will be funded;
  • Ensure that no region or city is left behind;
  • Consider the impact of the legislation on the transport market and the manufacturing industry.
