Large events such as the Olympic Games, World Cups, and international expos bring global attention and major opportunities to host cities. They boost tourism, strengthen local economies, create jobs, and often accelerate important urban development projects.
Public transport is central to the success of any major event. Systems must accommodate a sharp increase in travel demand while still providing reliable service for daily commuters.
These events also create opportunities to introduce smart mobility tools such as integrated ticketing, real-time passenger information, and AI-supported crowd and operations management.
At the same time, cities must address challenges including financial pressure, social disruption, and environmental impact. Effective planning requires long-term vision, strong inter-agency coordination, and a clear focus on safety and cost control.
When managed well, hosting a mega event can enhance a city’s international image and reinforce its reputation as an innovative and livable destination.
This training program will explore over the course of 3 days the key challenges of planning and operating public transport for large events.
