UITP Academy, in partnership with its Regional Training Centre EMT Madrid, is launching an in-person training programme on Sustainability in Public Transport between 22-24 September 2026. The course will be 3 days including international case studies.

Sustainability in businesses and organizations around the world is increasingly requested by investors, governments, and customers.

Organisations are expected to comply with regulations and standards to disclose information on their impacts, risks and opportunities on the environment, the society and their governance, while integrating sustainability principles at the core of their strategic approach.

This requires dedicated teams and individuals coordinating the integration of sustainability principles within the organisation but also the contributions of all staff.

For this reason, an understanding of the context, how sustainability relates to public transport, and how it is deployed in an organization is paramount for any decision-making staff.

Climate events significantly impact public transport systems in various ways, affecting infrastructure, facilities, operations, and overall reliability. Extreme weather events such as hurricanes, floods, and high winds can damage roads, bridges, railways, and transit stations. Flooding can lead to erosion, weakening the foundations of these structures and requiring costly repairs or replacements.

Service interruptions, delays, repair and maintenance costs, and reliability of public transport system are subjected to any climate events.

Climate events pose significant challenges to public transport systems, requiring robust adaptation and resilience strategies to ensure safety, reliability, and sustainability.
