Trolleybus & UITP

Trolleybuses were ahead of their time – they have always been electrified! Typically charged via overhead wires, better batteries and new technologies are enabling trolleybuses to help cities decarbonise their fleets.

For example, in-motion charging (IMC) uses wires to charge vehicles which can then run on battery power, improving operations and facilitating network expansion. In short, more people served by sustainable public transport!

Trolleybuses have been integral to public transport for over 130 years – and UITP has been there since the beginning. Today, UITP continues to bring together the trolleybus sector to research future innovations and advance a vision of sustainable mobility.
