Introduction

Join a week of technical meetings, exchanges and training activities in Mexico City.

UITP will convene and accompany a series of complementary mobility activities in Mexico City, bringing together international experts, local institutions, public transport operators, authorities and strategic partners.

Rather than a single conference, the UITP Mexico City Mobility Agenda 2026 is conceived as a coordinated framework for three connected activities taking place during the same week:

  1. The Cable Car Working Group Meeting, hosted by the Sistema de Transportes Eléctricos de la Ciudad de México.
  2. Ruta México, an initiative led by UITP Premium Member Mobility ADO.
  3. The UITP e-BRT Training in Mexico City, hosted by Metrobús CDMX.

This week will provide an opportunity to strengthen technical exchange, connect international and local experience, and highlight Mexico City’s growing relevance as a global reference point for integrated, sustainable and innovative public transport.

What Will You Learn?

Mexico City has become one of the most relevant urban laboratories for public transport innovation in the world. With large-scale investments in mass transit, electric mobility, bus rapid transit, trolleybus corridors and urban cable car systems, the city offers a unique setting for international exchange on the future of public transport.

The UITP Mexico City Mobility Agenda 2026 will bring together three different but complementary spaces for dialogue, technical learning and institutional cooperation.

Cable Car Working Group Meeting

Urban cable car systems have become an increasingly relevant solution for cities seeking to connect complex geographies, underserved areas and dense urban environments through clean, reliable and highly visible public transport infrastructure.

Mexico City is now recognised as one of the most important global references in the current development of urban cable car systems. Its recent experience has demonstrated how cable cars can become part of a broader public transport network, improving accessibility, reducing travel times and creating new opportunities for social and urban integration.

  • Learn from Mexico City’s experience in developing urban cable car systems.
  • Exchange global best practices and lessons learned.
  • Discuss the role of cable cars as part of integrated public transport networks.
  • Connect with international peers, local authorities and technical experts.
  • Explore future opportunities for cooperation through UITP’s international network.

Ruta México, Mobility ADO

Ruta México is an initiative led by Mobility ADO, a UITP Premium Member and one of the leading mobility actors in Mexico and Latin America.

The event has positioned itself as an important space for dialogue on the future of mobility in Mexico, bringing together authorities, companies, experts and decision-makers to discuss sustainable mobility, public transport, innovation, electromobility, urban development and the role of partnerships in transforming mobility systems.

UITP e-BRT Training in Mexico City

This training is part of the broader eBRT2030 project, an EU-funded initiative coordinated by UITP to support the next generation of electric Bus Rapid Transit systems.

The training will focus on the transition from conventional BRT and electric bus deployment towards integrated e-BRT systems, combining infrastructure, operations, fleet technology, charging strategies, service planning and institutional capacity.

Latin America has extensive experience with BRT systems and is increasingly advancing towards electric bus deployment. This makes Mexico City an ideal setting to discuss how both agendas can converge into more robust, scalable and sustainable e-BRT solutions.

  • Share international and regional experience on e-BRT systems.
  • Discuss the evolution from BRT and e-buses towards integrated e-BRT.
  • Highlight operational, technical and institutional challenges.
  • Involve local and regional experts with hands-on experience.
  • Use Mexico City’s public transport ecosystem as a practical learning platform.

Sessions yet to be announced.
