What are the UITP Awards?

The UITP Awards are the most prestigious recognition of excellence in the public transport sector, showcasing the most innovative, impactful and sustainable mobility projects worldwide.

First launched in 2011, the Awards have become a flagship initiative of UITP and are celebrated during the annual Awards Ceremony, ensuring maximum visibility for the winners and their projects.

The participants are competing for two types of distinction:

Is there a submission fee?

Can I make a submission if I am a previous winner or finalist?

Yes, we encourage past winners and finalists to submit again. However, please make sure it’s a new project as previously selected work won’t be considered.

Selection Process

How are the winners selected?

The Submissions are first analysed by an internal group of experts from UITP. They are then reviewed by an external international jury of experts whose assessments contribute to the selection of the finalists and winners based on pre-established criteria.

What are the criteria used to select a winner?

Projects are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Novelty: whether the project introduces something genuinely new relative to existing sector practices in the context it has been implemented.
  • Impact: the demonstrated or measurable effect on the sector, local communities and/or sustainable urban mobility.
  • Transferability: the potential to be adapted, scaled or replicated in other contexts, cities or regions.
  • Sustainability: whether the project can continue to deliver its effects over time, beyond initial funding or pilot conditions.
When will the nominations be announced?

The finalists will be announced in February 2027. Those who were not selected will also be informed at this time, giving them enough time to get the UITP Summit Early Bird Rate.

Awards Ceremony

When will the UITP Awards 2027 Ceremony take place?

The Awards Ceremony will take place during the UITP Summit in Hamburg, Germany, between 14 and 17 June 2027. The exact date and time will be announced soon.

What is expected of finalists?

At least one representative from a finalist company must attend the Summit and the UITP Awards ceremony. Once you are confirmed as a finalist, you should let us know the details of the person who will be representing your company at the Ceremony.

If your company is a finalist in multiple categories, either one representative may attend on behalf of each submission during the Awards Ceremony, or a single representative may attend on behalf of all submissions submitted by your organisation.

Why is the attendance to the Awards Ceremony mandatory for all finalists?

The UITP Awards are a celebration of the progressive, solution-driven and impactful projects being delivered by our members. The Awards Ceremony brings the sector together to recognise these achievements, learn from one another and celebrate the people and team behind them.

If I am a finalist, does the person representing my company have to be someone from the project team?

No, it can be someone from the project team or someone who is nominated from your company to attend the UITP Awards Ceremony and represent your organisation.

If I am selected as a finalist, should I expect to see my project as part of the UITP Awards online repository?

Yes, the UITP Awards online repository was started to showcase all finalist projects, celebrating their achievements and highlighting the impact they have made across the public transport sector.

Who can attend the UITP Awards Ceremony?

Anyone attending the Summit is invited to join and celebrate the projects that are making a real positive difference in our sector.

Will there be a hybrid Awards Ceremony?

No, the Awards Ceremony is in-person only.

How much does it cost to attend the Awards Ceremony?

The person representing your company must register and pay to attend the UITP Summit in Hamburg (14 to 17 June 2027) during which the Awards Ceremony will take place.

At least one person from a finalist organisation must attend the Ceremony on an Exchange Pass. For finalists only, we are offering a preferential rate for one representative at 980 euros (excluding taxes) for the full 3-day Exchange Pass. This gives you access to the entire Summit.
