Elevator pitch
The AMB presents its mobility app, with improvements such as the integration of real-time information, personalisation of each user's traveller profile, intermodality, digital taxi request service, and access to inclusive communities of virtual users.
Project description

New AMB Mobilitat is the 4th evolution of the transport information app for Barcelona Metropolitan Area including:

  • Ready for MaaS. The first stage for a MaaS is to synthesise and publish in an orderly manner all the travel options of the user. The app consolidates data from public and private transport operators and presents the data according to the user’s mobility preferences.
  • Intermodality. Use of P&R, regulated on-street parking, access to e-vehicles charging spots, LEZ, bike lanes network, bike-sharing, secure bike parking, taxi and private shared mobility.
  • PICMI Taxi. Innovative digital hailing function to request an immediate taxi.
  • AMBVosaltres. Collaborative community to deal with inclusivity, security, and accessibility.

Innovative features

Each utility has innovative features:

Firstly, the app personalizes the user and provides focused information on the modes of transport they use, such as incidents at the stops or lines they frequent. Sorting the information and ensuring the quality of the data are key processes included in the management of the app.

When it comes to intermodality, it is the first model in Spain that integrates real-time P&R information and booking, as well as info and registration into LEZ.

The PICMI Taxi feature aims to reduce empty kilometers of taxis and maximize utilization rates by letting drivers pick up passengers who request it digitally.

AMBVosaltres is a pioneering project to connect citizens and institutions to promote inclusivity in public transport from a perspective of gender, orientation, age, race, and other identities.

Impact features

The AMB Mobilitat app was the most used mobility application in Barcelona, ahead of Google Maps or Moovit. New utilities such as P&R, taxis, and micromobility predicts an even higher use. The ability of the app to adapt to user needs has been very well-received by those who do not consider themselves heavy users of the mobility system.

The integration of services, such as P+R or regulated on-street parking, encourages the use of public transport by being able to divert trips made by private vehicles. In addition, the application is being consolidated to integrate a complete MaaS in the future, with login and single payment per user, which will revolutionise mobility in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
