Elevator pitch
Nicola is the Head of Operational Policy, Insight & Analysis team, with approximately 40 individuals leading research and systems/tools to support priorities, as well as to develop and deliver evidence-based policy, recommend compliance activity, and assess our impact.
Project description

Nicola has grown and developed a team to be able to support the research, data, and analysis required to manage crime compliance activity on London’s transport network. This includes partnering closely with police throughout the capital to provide analytical insight, systems, and tools to support priorities, in addition to developing and delivering evidence-based policy and problem-solving.

This has meant short term research and analysis into factors most impacting customers and staff, and the short term operational responses to support this, as well as longer term strategic programmes to support data and manage performance through evidence based data and delivery.

Key areas include: Women’s safety, workplace violence, fare evasion, road safety, safeguarding, and hate crime.

Innovative features

  • International presentation speaking. Representing insight, approach and research. Seeking opportunity to engage with partners worldwide to share knowledge.
  • A new approach to analysis and research. Partnering data and analytics directly into policy to drive change and measure impact.
  • A way of working to encourage the development of individuals. This includes embedding frontline staff in data and research to understand first hand experiences and aid engagement.
  • Challenging the use of new data sets. Namely, AI and ticketing data to infer wider information.
  • Multiagency working. To understand impact across geographic locations, as well as transport.

Impact features

  • Operational Activity. The effective deployment of 600 officers to address antisocial behaviour on the transport system.
  • Revenue Protection. Using data and insight to inform activity. The programme seeks to manage the £130m loss to fare evasion and 45% of workplace violence incidents.
  • Rough sleeping. An approach led by data and insight, which ensures that those vulnerable on the network are prioritised as a safeguarding risk and receive support into accommodation.
  • Vision Zero. Data and insight to ensure nobody fatally or seriously injured on the roads by 2041.
  • Women’s safety. Research and insight to deliver a 30-action point programme designed to eradicate disproportionate issues for women on transport services.
