UITP is pleased to announce Stefan Stroh as the International Rail Conference and SITCE (Singaore, 9-11 July) keynote speaker – bringing a leading voice from the rail sector to our 2018 edition.
This year’s International Rail Conference – combined with SITCE for the first time in Asia – will be under the theme “People at the heart of digital railways”. This year, the 2018 edition of our International Rail Conference and SITCE will focus on how digital technologies will transform the rail transport landscape and the need to bring innovative solutions to a people-centric transportation system in order to improve commuters’ experience.
As the Chief Digital Officer for Deutsche Bahn in Germany, Stefan is an outstanding choice to deliver the 2018 keynote speech. Stefan has also been a Partner and Vice President at leading firms such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Booz & Company and Strategy&, part of the PwC network.
Here at UITP we always like to introduce our event keynotes to our readers so they get the chance to know more about the speaker; their thoughts on the public transport industry and what we can expect to hear from them during their opening speech.
So without further ado, let’s hear from Stefan…
What do you think of the public transport sector right now?
The mobility and transport sector has been undergoing a significant transformation and will continue to do so over the next few years. Mobility-as-a-Service platforms, autonomous vehicles, data and artificial intelligence will allow new forms of serving our customers’ mobility demands and will put incumbent players under significant pressure.
What are you expecting from the UITP International Rail Conference and SITCE 2018?
I look forward to the exchange and sharing of best practices and lessons learned throughout the conference, as the sector navigates through this digital disruption in our sector.
What do you think of the rail sector in Asia right now?
The rail and urban mobility sector in Asia is highly interesting as it is experimenting and building new mobility ecosystems both in urban mega cities as well as in high speed rail with bold visions and at a very high pace.
We have sessions during our Conference that will discuss digitalisation – a hot-button topic in the public transport sector. Deutsche Bahn have undergone a ‘digital transformation’ recently. Can you talk to our readers about how digital technologies and developments are impacting Deutsche Bahn? What do you hope our sessions on digitalisation will offer?
Digital is a key strategic pillar for moving Deutsche Bahn into the future. We are using digital technology to significantly improve our core operations in terms of customer experience and operational efficiency and effectiveness. At the same time, we are investing in building new mobility business models with our brands ioki, Qixxit and others. In order to achieve this we are building a digital transformation ecosystem internally and with external partners and start-ups to develop the capabilities we need to master the digital transformation.
