UITP is proud to announce that our Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani has been awarded the prestigious ICCA Global Influencer Award 2025.
Celebrating his commitment to shaping the future of urban mobility and his contributions to the global meetings industry, Mohamed is recognised for his international leadership during 2025.
The ICCA Global Influencer Award is one of the highest accolades presented annually by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
Honouring individuals whose leadership and innovative work inspires progress within the global meetings and events sector, recipients are chosen based on their ‘exceptional influence and the impact of their efforts in elevating the global profile of the meetings industry’.
Since joining UITP, Mohamed Mezghani has played a central role in shaping and delivering the association’s global events. He notably led the transformation of the UITP Global Summit, professionalising its organisation and management.
With the aim to strengthen knowledge-focused events, Mohamed initiated UITP Training programmes which led to the launch of the UITP Academy offering education and learning all over the world.
As President of ESAE, the European Society of Association Executives, Mohamed is also a strong advocate for more collaboration with those committed to engagement and interaction.
“I’m truly honoured to receive the ICCA Global Influencer Award 2025. Thank you to ICCA for this meaningful recognition. Throughout my journey at UITP and ESAE, I’ve always believed in the power of associations and events to bring people together – not just to exchange ideas, but to build trust and understanding. In today’s polarised world, connecting minds and building bridges is more important than ever. I’m proud to be part of a global community that works every day to make that possible.”
Under Mohamed’s leadership, UITP has redefined its events strategy turning the Summit into an annual edition complemented by local and regional events with the aim to globalise UITP events and better serve its members on all continents.
Mohamed’s personal commitment to sustainability led to the introduction of a project to make UITP events more sustainable. It is exemplified by his decision to prioritise rail travel over air travel whenever possible to reduce carbon emissions, reinforces the importance of ‘walking the talk’ when it comes to decarbonisation.
Often moving by train to events and meetings, Mohamed’s social media platforms are recognised by UITP members, partners, and stakeholders such as the press for raising awareness of the convenience of staying on the ground.
For UITP, this award is a significant opportunity to shine a further spotlight on the professionalisation of the organisation of its Summit, events and training programmes.
The recognition of Mohamed’s leadership is not only a personal achievement, but also a collective reflection of the entire UITP community’s commitment to putting people at the heart of our projects and events.
