Safety and security are the top priority for public transport operators. Our members work endlessly on ensuring safe travel environments for their passengers; it is indeed a continual process, and one that should never be taken lightly.
For years, terrorism has been one of the biggest threats facing any public space, and public transport around the world has also withstood attacks. As much as possible, our members strive to be prepared for these situations and eliminate potential threats.
In an effort to support public transport operators and their staff in their efforts to counter terrorism, the UITP Security Committee has adapted a training course originally created by the UK Police entitled ‘Counter terrorism awareness training’. The one-hour long training course provides information such as defining ‘extremism’ and ‘terrorist profiles’, as well as looks at potential vulnerabilities and how they can be recognised. It also gives advices and procedures to follow for the public transport operational staff.
The training kit consists of a PowerPoint presentation and a 20-minute video. UITP has adapted the PowerPoint and video in seven different languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German and Dutch.
In addition, UITP is hosting a webinar on 21 February 2019 to explain how to use the training kit to better equip and prepare your operational staff.
The antiterrorism training kit is available to all operators! For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
