Rolling Stock in the Railway System, a reference book edited by Eric Fontanel and Reinhard Christeller, is a must-read for rail rolling stock experts, engineers, students and anyone interested in rail. Created under the technical supervision of François Lacôte, the project was partially realised with the support of UITP.

First published in French in 2015, Rolling Stock in the Railway System is a new key publication in the rail sector. Written by a team of more than 30 European rail specialists including UITP experts, the book covers the history of railway, addressing each mode of rail specifically. The publication also takes stock on the modern techniques applied to rolling stock, placing it within the context of a rapidly evolving railway system resulting from the opening of the European borders.

The first volume of Rolling Stock in the Railway System (500 pages) is currently available. The next volumes of the trilogy will be released in 2017, and will provide in-depth descriptions of the different types of trains, components and equipment used in all kinds of operations, followed by an outlook on industry trends.
