Since 2014, UITP has been collaborating with the Department of Transport in Moscow to advance urban mobility through shared thinking.

Our Eurasia office is the main focal point for all our local developments and this week we took another step forward in advancing UITP’s footprint in the region.

During the International Bus Conference (Brussels, 21-23 October), held in conjunction with Busworld Europe, UITP and the Moscow Directorate of Transport Services signed an agreement of cooperation to create new opportunities between the two bodies.

Next year, MDTS will host the Leaders in Urban Transportation Council (May 2020) with the support of UITP, and create further opportunities for collaboration using the experience and knowledge base of UITP’s global reach.

The agreement was signed during a special ceremony at the International Bus Conference by UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani and Director General of MDTS Nikolay Asaul, alongside UITP Senior Director Kaan Yıldızgöz and a visiting Russian delegation led by Head of UITP Moscow and Astana Offices, Yussup Khassiev.

Moscow has decided to organise a Council of Leaders in the field of urban transport development every two years and UITP expects to establish a high-level partnership with MDTS, to create and support the Council, as a leading international event attracting participants from the mobility sector at the highest level.

Congratulations to all for this exciting new partnership!

Stay tuned to our newsroom next week for our wrap-up news and press release officially concluding the 2019 International Bus Conference!
